I have over ten years experience teaching swim lessons and swam Varsity at Linfield University in McMinnville OR (graduated 2018). I've taught swim lessons at Carlton Community Pool, West Linn Co-op, the Mittleman Jewish Community Center, Stafford Hills Club, & for WA Special Olympics.
I am a patient, fun, and firm instructor who balances technique work with skill-building games. I also prioritize water safety skills. When I'm not swimming, I can be found listening to metal music, writing romance novels, and hanging out with my pet corn snake Pumpkin.
A private saltwater pool, with a dedicated restroom available on site.
The pool is heated to between 85-90 F. No shivers here! In the summer, it is kept a little cooler.
It is 32 feet long (10 yards) by 14 feet, and ranges from 3-7 feet deep.
"the joy of swimming belongs to everyone."
a calm, welcoming environment at a private pool
you'll step into a warm pool-house, grab a chair on deck, and listen to some oldies playing in the background while you watch your child swim. Afterwards, there are fresh towels available for use and stickers/candy for the kids.
an LGBT & POC friendly business
People of color have historically been excluded from public swimming pools and still experience microaggressions and othering, particularly in areas that are less diverse (demographically, Portland is largely white). I am a culturally competent instructor who seeks to make all my clients feel comfortable and supported in their learning journey.
I am also part of the LGBT community and my business is a safe space for LGBT children and families.
smaller class sizes for more personalized attention (3-4 swimmers per class).
In larger classes, kids can get lost in the mix and not progress. I get to know each swimmer individually and adapt my teaching strategies to help them learn. One child may learn best with firm direction and fun challenges, while another needs gentle encouragement and reassurance. I never use fear or force in the process to learn. I utilize a consent-based teaching model based on the best practices of sport psychology and child development.
affordable group lesson options (currently an average of $10 cheaper per lesson than our competitors in the Portland area!)
